If you’ve been on our website or have opened one of our sample box sets it’s likely that you noticed that all of our products have either been color coded as green, yellow, or red (sample boxes) or have a single $, double $$, or triple $$$ (website) associated with them. While this may be intuitive for some, we wanted to take this opportunity to simplify it for the rest
These classifications are only a price reference to how Decorative Stone Solutions (DSS) product stack up against each other in the same category (Crushed rock, Round Rock, Decomposed Granite, etc..). It does not represent a specific price range that a product will fall within. Actual pricing will be heavily dependent on the amount of product needed for a project. There can be a somewhat wide range of pricing within color or $ classification. Do not use to compare products with the same coding that are in different categories. Example, a green coded crushed rock product will not necessarily be in the same price range as a green coded round rock.
With that out of the way let’s get to explaining what you will be looking at and how to interpret what it actually means to you.
DSS Sample Boxes
-
Display the name of the product along with the size being displayed followed by listing the other available sizes
-
The background color code of the product on the lid tells the viewer what price range the product falls into. We currently have 2 versions of sample boxes. One for Southern California based projects and one for Northern California projects. The verbiage on the top inside lid will tell you what version you are looking at.
DSS Website
-
Viewer is asked what region their project is located in when moving past the home screen (Southern California, Northern Californai, or Other). Selecting a region will tailor the viewing experience and price coding will be reflective of the selected region.
-
When viewing an individual product like the Amber Cloud below you will see the price range is $$
-
It is possible to use the price filter option in the product finder page to filter for one or more of the price codes. Only products falling within those codes will be displayed.
Some other generalizations that may not be so obvious are:
Green or $:
-
Least expensive.
-
These products will all be originating from the same region as your project site
-
Will always be LEED qualified for regional materials points
Yellow or $$:
-
Midrange pricing.
-
These products are quarried somewhere in between Red and Green designated products.
-
Many will be LEED qualified for regional materials points
Red or $$$:
-
Most expensive.
-
Typically due to the product having to be hauled in from a distant quarry
-
Many will be LEED qualified for regional materials points
-
Only a few will be LEED qualified for regional materials points
Remember “Rock is cheap, moving it around is expensive”. The rule of thumb is the further the quarried source of the stone from the project, the more expensive it will be.
